Chapter Thirteen
MONETARY REFORM - THE PAY OFF
Unless there were simply enormous advantages to be obtained by
changing the monetary system there would be very little point in
tackling the enormous task of bringing it off.
Let us start with a closer look at how we get deeper into debt
every minute of the day and night.
The debt is now so great that we have to borrow the money to pay
the interest and by thus increasing the debt we increase the interest,
for which we must borrow more money and increase the debt even further,
and so it goes and the graph of debt eventually goes into a vertical
climb.
Economically it is an unhealthy state of affairs, to say the least,
and we cannot be quite sure that it is not a terminal illness.
In New York they had an electronic digital display for all to see
showing the total figure owed by their Government and the digits
were racing away night and day showing the increase in the debt
at a rate of millions of dollars per twenty four hours.
As our own Chancellor of the Exchequer once said "when the
figures get big enough, they become meaningless".
This is perfectly true, all these words I have written about debt
are quite meaningless to us and to our politicians, but they will
become exceedingly meaningful to future generations. Our great grandchildren
will not think much of us for bequeathing to them such a colossal
debt, that it was meaningless to us.
Therefore we need to ask how we can stop the rot, get out of debt
and start to flourish and prosper, from top to bottom of society,
right down to the poorest of the poor.
The answer is very simple. Restore to our Government the sole
right to create and issue our currency.
But there are conditions under which we will allow our Government
to do so.
Remember it is our Government put there by us, for our benefit.
Try to remember what democracy was, when it did exist. It was Government
of the people, by the people for the people.
It is our Government and we decide how we wish to be governed.
And we must decide on how the monetary system operates, our lives
depend on it.
It is in actuality money or our life.
We are looking at a life or death issue.
It is essential to get it right.
It is essential to make absolutely certain our Government gets
it right.
Thus the conditions which we impose upon our Government.
We demand that the Government exercise its ancient constitutional
prerogative of creating money and spending it.
To quote the words of Abraham Lincoln who holds the respect of
all freedom loving peoples "The privilege of creating and issuing
money is not only the supreme prerogative of Government, but it
is the Government's greatest creative opportunity."
Of course it could be said that the first political party in Britain
to heed those words and put them into practice would have such an
advantage over the opposition as to remain in power for ever.
Perhaps the reason we do not have a science of economics is because
it would ruin the game of party politics and give us a strange new
sort of democracy.
Strange, because we have never experienced what Government of
the people, by the people, for the people is actually like. It has
never been tried!
When the Government creates new money it must spend it. The Government
must not lend it to anyone.
The rate at which our Government is permitted to create and issue
new money into circulation by spending it, will be very strictly
controlled by universally agreed upon principles.
Principles which we dictate and which we all agree to be correct.
There can be no secrecy about this. The manufacture of money by
our Government must be an open book for anyone to inspect at any
time. No mystery permitted.
No Official Secrets Act must hide the exact mechanisms of money
creation employed by our Government.
The principles which we need to examine and which we need to decide
are correct from our correct understanding of money, will be given
later in this book for your consideration.
It is you who must decide what will be the correct principles
to be followed in determining the rate at which our Government is
allowed to create new money.
And you must have a clear understanding of money in order to know
whether the principles you advocate are correct.
This is the purpose of this book to help you to get it right.
We are not going to leave it to the so-called experts ever again.
We shall decide and we shall take responsibility for making sure
that the principles we agree to be correct are strictly adhered
to.
I shall with this book empower the citizen, to empower his Government.
Exciting stuff and very feasible. Very simple, very direct, very
ethical and it will guarantee prosperity for all.
